Can Do! Fighting Hunger at ISC East
At next month’s ISC East in New York City, premier sponsor SIA, the Women in Security Forum (WISF) and ISC East are teaming up to fight hunger. When thousands of exhibitors and attendees and hundreds of exhibiting companies representing the security industry and law enforcement descend on the Javits Center on Manhattan’s West Side on Nov. 15-17, there will be ways anyone can help.
What started as several concerned ISC East attendees scouring the exhibition floor for extra snacks and food they could donate instead of it going to waste has turned into the SIA WISF CAN DO Challenge. The initiative is ongoing nationally from Nov. 14-29. Organizers simply ask people to donate a “can” or “do” something like deliver or serve a meal with a local charity—then post a photo on LinkedIn with the hashtag #WISFCanDo.
At ISC East, organizers are asking exhibitors to pack some extra snacks in their show shipments and donate them at SIA Booth 1037. Attendees can donate as well and any donations will support the local New York City community. Recommended items include granola bars, nuts, applesauce, tuna, chocolate milk, and water bottles.
"Hunger statistics are sadly keeping pace with inflation. No community is exempt,” said Alice DiSanto, SIA Charitable Giving Subcommittee Chair and vice president of Global Marketing for Rajant Corporation. “New York City has nearly 1.5 million experiencing food insecurity, including 1 in 4 children. ISC East's proximity to the underserved allows all attendees and exhibitors to uplift the local NYC neighborhood with snack pack items and beverages. Ideally suited for NYC's homeless and street-bound, turn extra provisions into nourishment for those you may pass as you walk to the Javits Center. It's a blessing to give. Join the SIA WISF CAN DO Challenge and be a blessing to others at ISC East."
