Report Says AI Adoption in Physical Security Remains Low, ISC West Audience can Learn About and Evaluate Solutions this March

While more businesses recognize the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve physical security, its adoption remains limited. This is according to Pro-Vigil’s newly released research report, The State of Physical Security Entering 2025. The report reveals that only 7 percent of surveyed organizations have incorporated AI into their security strategies, despite 36 percent acknowledging its potential benefits.

Security pros attending ISC West in Las Vegas (March 31-April 4 at the Venetian Expo) can learn about the issues surrounding AI in physical security both in an educational setting and from a product demonstration perspective.

Nearly two dozen sessions in the SIA Education@ISC conference program over the four-day event will touch on AI, it’s capabilities and its use cases in physical security.

The Pro-Vigil survey, which included responses from operations leaders in industries such as construction, retail, and manufacturing, highlighted several key trends and concerns in physical security:

Rise in Incidents: A slight uptick in physical security incidents (12 percent) was reported over the past year, with 91 percent of respondents noting incidents either increased or remained the same in 2024. Asset damage (25 percent), project delays (22 percent), and inventory losses (20 percent) were cited as the most common impacts.

Top Concerns: Rising local crime rates topped the list of worries at 23 percent, followed by economic uncertainty at 15 percent.

Surveillance Trends: Nearly half (47 percent) of respondents upgraded their security strategy in 2024 by installing cameras, while 12 percent implemented remote video monitoring (RVM) solutions. Other common upgrades included fencing (19 percent) and alarm systems (11 percent).

Education, of course, is necessary to raise the comfort level of executives implementing solutions to combat the increasing challenges noted in the survey. ISC West, the largest annual security event in the U.S., has always been a place for security professionals to seek out and evaluate ways to make them and their companies more effective.
